Developing cognate awareness through pedagogical translanguaging

This article is on pedagogical translanguaging, understood as planned instructional strategies used with a purpose in multilingual educational context. The paper reports study cognate identification and awareness carried out primary school. aims at analyzing whether the of cognates three languages related to linguistic factors teaching. relationship between teaching metalinguistic also explored. Half participants took part an intervention based translanguaging using resources from students’ own repertoire while other half followed regular classes. Participants completed background questionnaire recognition task. Information was gathered by means think-aloud protocol interview. results indicate that connected characteristics but not having Basque or Spanish first language. who had taken showed higher development there were no significant differences groups identification. are exploratory they whole can create more opportunities for language learning.
